Are you being Over Dramatic?
Do you ever remember as a kid being told to :
"stop flying off the handle" or "over reacting"
Effecively having our feeling invalidated
When you become an adult, this can then make you question your feelings.
Like what are my real feelings?
So if you are struggling thinking that you are being "over – dramatic" it's time you thought abt what that actually means....
Here's an example..
In a day your mood can end up being effected by so many different factors...
Some internal and some external
Examples:
food
water
sleep
human interation
negative thought patterns
Say I’ve had a crap nights sleep (less than 7 hours)
My dog woke me up early, take him out for his morning walk and I get dragged down the road while he chases a fox
I come home, drink a gallon of coffee
I log onto work and im greeted by a million emails, all wanting different things from me
You can guarantee I'm going to feel overhwlemed and not in the best of moods......
Is that my dogs fault? Not really, he hates foxes and they taunt him
Is it the fact I had a rubbish nights sleep? yes
Caffeine firing me up and making me jittery? absolutely
Work aspects? yep!
So my reactions if they go unchecked and over loaded can be completely different to if i'd had
8 hours sleep
No foxes to wind my dog up
A bottle of water
And then I opened my laptop, my reactions to the overwhelm would be different!
Changing one of the factors in that story can make your management of emotions different.
If you aren’t self aware and you cannot see what has led you to the point you're at.....
You could mistake your emotions and feelings as being "over dramatic" or "over the top" for the situation at hand and it's just not true!
Given your individual circumstances there is good reason
Even if you cant unpick your day just the continuous negative thought patterns can influence you
They can also accuminlate over days and even weeks and then manifest in one horrible big bang...
Once you realise that your emotions don’t stay the same all day they change
It's a part of the human experience to have ups and downs.
No one feels the same way all the time, and that's okay.
Labeling yourself as 'dramatic' for experiencing these changes in moods can add an extra layer of negative emotion.
Everyone processes their feelings differently, and it's okay to want to get some understanding and clarity about your own experience.
You can manage your feelings more intentionally and not let the self doubt creep in
Remember, recognizing and exploring these feelings is a sign of self-awareness
It is NOT a sign of weakness or over dramatic behaviour.
Our goal here isn't to end these changes in emotions but to understand them, accept them, and develop strategies to navigate them in a way that supports your well-being and puts you back in charge
Let me know if that helps
